OA’s are delighted to confirm that they were able to organize and host the Herts Youth Cup finals and it was great that after 2 disrupted seasons with Covid/Lockdowns all the youth players in Hertfordshire from u14 through to Colts were able to compete in this prestigious competition.
The Finals were last held in April 2019 at Hertford RFC and OA’s, having had to cancel the competition after semi final stages in March 2020 , were able to co-ordinate the competition again this season on behalf of Herts RFU and host the Finals day on Sunday 1 May.
It was a great celebration of Youth Rugby up at Woollams and it was great to see the strength in depth across Hertfordshire’s various clubs and the high quality of rugby played on the day.
10 trophies were contested across 4 age groups (u14/u15/u16 and Colts) and it was pleasing to see 14 clubs out of Hertfordshire’s 20 clubs were represented, with over 440 players involved in these finals and we had 9 different winners of the various trophies.
OA’s Colts capped the day with a nail biting close victory( 17-14 )over Bishop Stortford A, who pushed the home clubs Colts all the way to the final whistle.
Competition organizer for OA’s Steve Pope says:
“it was so good to eventually host the Cup Finals after 2 fragmented and frustrating seasons for the County’s youth player and their Coaches. Woollam’s was packed on Sunday and great to showcase the wide and deep talent pool of youth rugby in Hertfordshire.”
