Worthing 31 Old Albanian 7

The writing was probably on the wall in the first 5 minutes when the visitors butchered a credible attacking chance in the hosts’ 22. This occurred four more times in the half and was the result of lack of precision, unforced error or possession lost in contact.

By the end of the period, however, Albanians were just 14-7 adrift and optimists amongst the travellers would not have given up on the result just yet.

Worthing had scored first when, in the 7th minute, Jack Forrest and Connor Slevin presented full back for the day Dan Watt with an impossible 2 on 1. McLean converted. This was equalled when a similar move on the far right allowed Noot to show his prowess. Watt added the conversion.

Luke tore over on the half hour for a lead the Raiders were not to lose.

The Albanian defence showed up well for most of the second period but this couldn’t stop Luke from adding to the tally 5 minutes in. McLean obliged with the extras.

Gradually the OA pack found itself all but overwhelmed and with meaningful possession denied only one outcome was possible. Two rapier barbs from replacement wing Cassius Cleave in a five minute demonstration of intent ended all resistance.
