The Saints maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a dominant win away to Henley Hawks, 38-7.

The Woolams outfit travelled full of confidence, looking to build upon strong performances against Trojans and Blackheath in their opening games.

The game started at a blistering pace in awful conditions. The OA’s pack quickly took the upper hand and from a centre field scrum, the ball was shipped out wide Caz Bolton who raced under the posts to give the visitors an early lead, 7-0.

As the weather worsened and the game tightened, the Saints pack asserted their dominance, which lead to an opportunity for scrum half, Eloise Bloomfield, to snipe from the breakdown, kick ahead and win the foot race to dot down, extending the lead to 12-0.

The scrum acted as a reliable weapon for the Saints, which proved a strong platform to allow Bloomfield to once again snipe from the base, breaking through the Hawks’ defensive line before offloading to the ever present Caz Bolton, allowing the electric winger to touchdown under the posts for her second try. Once again extending the lead to 19-0.

The home side rallied, and gained a try of their own from the base of a scrum through a number 8 pick up and offload to their inside centre, who raced away to open the Hawks’ scoring. The try was converted to close the gap to 19-7.

However, this would prove to be the only score for the home team, as Saints quickly re-took a stronghold of the game, leading to Caz Bolton touching down once again to complete a stunning first half hat-trick, making the score at the break 24-7.

The second half was more of the same from OA’s, with Caz Bolton powering 60 yards down the pitch to gain her fourth and final try, securing her ‘Player of the Match’.

Steph Plunkett soon after extended the lead to 38-7 after some quick footwork in the opposition 22 to exploit slower forwards in midfield.

A clinical display gained Saints their third win from 3 this season. They will look to carry this early momentum into next Sunday fixture at home, against Bath.
