Big wins for U13s to close the regular season

The U13s A and B sides put in 2 of their best performances of the season to close their league commitments and finish the regular card on Sunday 7th April.

This follows on from a busy period for the lads culminating in the Herts U13 Festival on Sunday 30th March where the age group entered 3 sides at A and B level plus a Barbarian Development side with our friends at Harpenden RFC , who also hosted the fest.

OAs U13 A closed their 1st season in the Herts and Middlesex A League with fixture back at Harpenden again on their great 4g pitch. A good win for OAs A left the lads / Harpenden and Rosslyn Park in a 3 way tie at the top of the A league . It’s been a long first season for the lads with a few ups and downs along the way but they saved their best performance of the season by a long way for this final game . The back line is full of guile/ pace and power and we now have a pack to match up with the best forwards in the area and next season looks bright for this group. Big credit goes to Phil and Kim who have worked closely with this group throughout the season and great to see their planning and coaching paying big dividends.

Similarly the OAs U13 Bs played ChessValley B in what was a well matched affair with the OAs running out as deserved winners .They too put in one of their best performances of the season with the pack winning more than their fair share of ball against a bigger heavier side and like the A’s had a back line that moved the ball intelligently and accurately and ran in as comfortable winners against a bigger side.Again big credit goes to Julian and Andy who have both worked closely with this group over the season.

The U13s now have some great rugby events to enjoy over the next month as the regular season comes to an end .

A large group are heading to Portugal this weekend for a truly international festival playing a host of European teams and sides from SA and further afield . The lads and their families will have a great time and more to follow on this exciting venture from Kim.

The age group are also hosting a Dutch side – the Bokkerijders- on the 4th/5th May and will be having a big outing to the Saracens v Exeter game as well as playing some 7s/10s on the Sunday with our Dutch guests including our u15s and some other local clubs.

The season will finish with a big day of 7s the age group is running for charity on the 12th May.

Steve Pope for the age group says “Sunday was a great way to finish the regular season and the results for both the A and the B side reflect the way the lads have improved and developed individually and collectively over the course of their 1st season of Junior rugby. Our strength in depth has been further enhanced by our willingness to continue with the Age Grade approach with regular mixed training sessions and more mixed ability games than streamed league games. A big vote of thanks is due, not only to our excellent coaching and 1st aiding teams but also Robert who has planned/ managed the seasons card really well. I’ll look forward to hearing the tour stories!”

“ We remain keen to bring in new players to further strengthen our squad numbers as a number of lads go off to senior schools outside of the area and hope to develop a life long love of rugby in lads not already playing at a club .”

Squad Manager
